SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — A truck driver suffered minor injuries in a crash Wednesday on I-295 South. According to Rhode Island State Police, the dump-style tractor-trailer left the highway near Route 7 in Smithfield just before 10:30 a.m. and hit several trees in the center median. The trai ler detached, police said, while the tractor portion was significantly damaged on its passenger side. Police said the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
