Todd Stennis with Amtrak says the trains will benefit towns all along the route.
"When we're talking about bringing people over from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the greater Mobile area, this is a direct service to bring people to downtown New Orleans and go into all of the businesses, sporting events or concerts," said Stennis.
Between New Orleans and Mobile, Amtrak will also stop in Bay Saint Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pascagoula.
