LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Opera legend Andrea Bocelli is set to bring his iconic voice to Lexington for the first time with a live concert at Rupp Arena on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Brian Sipe, General Manager of Rupp Arena and Central Bank Center, says the performance marks a major milestone
for the city.
“So until just about 2 years ago, Andrea Bocelli would only play the biggest markets, so Chicago, Boston, New York City. He just started venturing into markets our size, so we’re definitely on the front end of markets our size getting him here,” said Sipe.
The Lexington Philharmonic will join Bocelli on stage, adding to the significance of the event. In addition to the performance, proceeds from the concert will go toward funding a new building for the Markey Cancer Center.
Mark Evers, Director of the Markey Cancer Center, emphasized the impact of the initiative.
“This building is going to be fantastic… it really, as I said, is a one-stop shop in terms of patients just walking in and getting all their care done. So being able to raise that awareness and raise funds to help with this building is going to be huge for us,” said Evers.
The concert is expected to be a festive experience for families ahead of the holiday season.
“It’s a great Christmas show, I mean you can bring your whole family, there’s going to be songs you know, I believe his son will be with him as well. So it’s just a great night out for the family during the holiday season,” Sipe said.
Pre-sale tickets open on April 1, with general ticket sales beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7.
