We are the Royal Gorge Region: Nearly 40year tradition of growing vibrant plants
Mar 26, 2025
(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — As the warm winds of springs begin to sweep through Fremont County, Elm Avenue Greenhouse is buzzing with excitement. Located in Cañon City, this family-operated greenhouse has been a cornerstone of the local community for nearly four decades, supplying the region with vibr
ant flowers, healthy vegetables, lush herbs, and fruits.
Co-owner Heather Lippis, who has been immersed in the world of flowers for as long as she can remember says, "I love all flowers. You know, this time of year is one of my favorite times of year. Just because it's so busy and all the flowers are coming out, so I can't really say I have one favorite." Lippis' enthusiasm is contagious, especially as the business gears up for the spring and summer seasons when the greenhouse's eight large structures come alive with colors and scents.
Elm Avenue Greenhouse has long been known for its mission to provide the greater Fremont County region with healthy, beautiful, and disease-free plants. Over the years, it has become a trusted source for locals, who flock to the greenhouse for everything from decorative flowers to edible plants. In addition to serving the local community, Elm Avenue has expanded its reach, securing contracts with the City of Woodland Park and Colorado Springs.
On top of a wide variety of beautiful flowers, Elm Avenue Greenhouse has small herbs like basil, red basil, oregano, peppermint, thyme, parsley, chives, lemon grass, and rosemary available for greenhouses or window seals.
Despite its success, the greenhouse isn't without its challenges. Lippis cites the unpredictable Colorado weather, especially hail, as one of the most significant hurdles to overcome.
"We've had issues with the weather, Lippis explained. "I had really bad hail damage a couple of years ago, so that was kind of hard. But other than that, that is really not much."
However, Lippis and her family continue to push forward, working tirelessly to ensure that the plants are protected and ready for the demands of the season. The greenhouse's reputation for producing high-quality, disease-free plants has kept it a favorite in the community, and it remains an integral part of the local agricultural scene.
As spring rolls in and Elm Avenue Greenhouse prepares for another bustling season, Lippis and her team remain focused on their mission: to grow plants that are not only beautiful but also nourishing. It's clear that their passion for what they do is blooming just as brightly as the flowers they cultivate.
