CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Inmates from the Beaufort County Detention Center are being temporarily housed in Charleston County due to plumbing issues at their home facility.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said 53 inmates were brought from the Beaufort County jail to the Sheriff
Al Cannon Detention Center on Tuesday.
Lexi Douglas, CCSO’s public information officer, said the inmates are expected to be at the Charleston County jail for the next three weeks.
“The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has an agreement with the Beaufort County Detention Center that they will pay $15 a day per inmate for meals and medical, in addition to a one-time $50 fee per inmate for the intake and screening process upon entry, totaling $365 per inmate,” said Douglas.
If one of the inmates should require a hospital escort, that would be an additional $52 per day, according to Douglas.
Beaufort County provided staff to work in the unit where the inmates are being housed. Officials say there will be no impact on daily operations for the CCSO staff. ...read more read less
