NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Amtrak aims to launch a rail service from New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama, this summer. Amtrak told the New Orleans City Council Transportation Committee on Tuesday that the service is on target to start this summer with two daily roundtrips. Director of Amtrick Governmenta l Affairs Todd Stennis said the trains will benefit towns all along the route. "When we're talking about bringing people over from the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the greater Mobile area, this is a direct service to bring people to downtown New Orleans and go in to all of the businesses, sporting events or concerts," said Stennis.
