Spirit Airlines relaunching AustinDetroit route that it last operated in 2023

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines will begin nonstop flights between Austin and Detroit this summer.
The airline will launch the route on June 12, with flights operating four times each week. The route is a resumption of service for Spirit; it last flew between AUS and DTW in Aug
ust 2023.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday, an airline spokesperson told KXAN. Detroit will be Spirit's sixth nonstop route from Austin.

Spirit was the sixth-largest airline operating at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in 2024, based on passenger traffic. The airline flew more than 334,000 passengers in and out of Austin, accounting for about 1.5% of all passengers. That total is less than half the number of passengers served in 2023.
The Detroit route is the 21st new route announced by airlines for 2025. Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and WestJet have also announced new nonstop flights from AUS. ...read more read less
