The Indianapolis zoo says its President and CEO has recovered after a chimpanzee bit him last week. The zoo tells news 8 that the chimp bit rob Shumaker’s finger while Shumaker was feeding the animal through a mesh barrier.
A trial date is set for a semi driver accused of causing a construction zone crash that killed a child and shut down 465. Dieuson Leron is set to face a jury May 27th. The wreck happened last summer. Authorities say Leron failed to stop for a backup – and slammed into a car, killing a 9-year-old boy inside.
President Trump has signed a new executive order that aims to reshape elections. It would require proof of citizenship to register – and require all ballots to be recieved by Election Day nationwide. It’s not yet clear if the order is enforceable because state and local officials run elections.
The President is downplaying the group texting of attack plans on non-governmental channels – and the inclusion of a journalist in the group. Trump called the episode “the only glitch in two months” of his administraion – and claimed the incident was not “serious”. The comments came in an interview with NBC News.
As Purdue prepares to play in Indianapolis in the Sweet 16, the team’s star guard is adding a new honor to his resume. Braden Smith is one of four finalists for the Naismith National Player of the Year award. He’s already a consensus first-team All-American. If he wins the Naismith, it will extend a Boilermaker stranglehold on the honor; Zach Edey won it the last two seasons.
The floor is in place for Friday’s games at Lucas Oil Stadium. It will be the first time the facility has hosted college basketball since 2021, when it was the centerpiece of the everything-in-Indianapolis tournament forced by the COVID pandemic.
