DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — An 85-year-old man is dead and another person has been airlifted to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 85 on Monday afternoon, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol. At around 3:07 p.m. on Monday, troopers came to the area of Mile Marker 89 on I-8 5 to investigate a fatal crash. Investigators say that a silver Toyota Highlander was traveling North on I-85 and ran off the left side of the roadway into the median before continuing north in the median, striking a concrete bridge and support beam and lastly landing down the embankment next to the railroad tracks. Two people were inside the Toyota, according to troopers. The driver was airlifted to a local hospital. The passenger, Woodrow Watson Kelly, 85, of Bahama, died as a result of his injuries at the scene. There is no further information available at this time. ...read more read less
