We’re locked into a dry, gusty northwest flow behind yesterday’s cold front, which is dropping humidity into the teens this afternoon — perfect conditi
ons for fires to spread quickly. Red Flag Warning is in effect for Burke County with a Fire Danger Statement across the rest of the area. Winds could gust up to 20-30 mph with highs topping out in the upper 60s this afternoon.
Tonight will be clear and colder with lows falling into the 30s and 40s, so patchy frost possible for areas west and north of Charlotte as winds die down overnight. Warming up late week with highs going from near 70 Thursday to near 80 by Friday. It will remain dry, but not as breezy.
Rain chances return late in the weekend with showers on Sunday. Another system Monday, could bring severe weather to the area. If it arrives later in the day during peak daytime heating all threat modes will be possible so this will be something to watch over the next few days.
