AUSTIN (KXAN) -- It's been awhile since some of us needed the umbrella, but you'll want to keep it close starting tonight as our weather pattern turns unsettled for the rest of the work week.
Today will feature more clouds than sun with afternoon highs in the low 80s. A few spots of rain are possible during the daytime but rain is more likely to fill in after sunset.
Periods of rain and storms continue late tonight, Thursday and through the first part of Friday.
It's likely that all of us get some rain, but the heaviest totals are favored along and east of I-35.
Scattered rain, heavy at times, as early as Wednesday night
Odds favor less than 1" of rain across much of the Hill Country, but a lot will depend on where any repeat (training) thunderstorms may set up. I feel this upcoming storm may throw at least a couple surprises our way and hopefully one of those surprises brings more rainfall than currently expected.
Rainfall expectations through Friday
The highest flash flood risk is near and southeast of the Austin Metro, which is now in a level 1 out of 4 risk of flash flooding. Parts of Fayette County are at a level 2 out of 4 risk.
Low risk of flash flooding, mainly south and east of Austin
Low risk for severe storms Friday
Right now we think the rainfall jackpot zone in Texas will be south of our area where 2"-6" amounts will be more common.
Beyond Friday
Drier weather returns late Friday and through the weekend with temperatures back into the 80s. Low rain chances return early next week.
