AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On average, home fires claim the lives of 7 people in the U.S. every day. One of the best ways to prevent death or injury from a home fire is to install smoke detectors. On April 5, the American Red Cross volunteers and the Manchaca Fire Rescue will team up to install smoke al arms in the Manchaca community. This "Sound the Alarm" event is free to those in this neighborhood. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers plan to be out in the area on March 29 to get an idea of how many residents are interested.
