FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A convicted felon was arrested after fleeing when he allegedly shot toward an apartment complex in Del Rey, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies say they responded to a shooting call on the 10000 block of E. Redondo Avenue in Del Rey on March 21 at
2:45 a.m. At the time, deputies learned the shots were fired toward an apartment complex by someone in a gray Chevrolet Suburban - nobody reported being struck by the bullets.
Sheriff officials say deputies located the vehicle in the area and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Armando Lopez, 44, of Parlier, did not pull over, and a pursuit was initiated, in which Lopez reportedly reached speeds up to 90 mph. He eventually crashed into an orchard near South McCall and East Parlier avenues.
The sheriff's office says Lopez tried to run away, but he was taken into custody.
Additionally, officials report that two unregistered short-barrel AR-15 style pistols and several hundred rounds of ammunition were found in his vehicle during a search. Lopez is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. All firearms recovered were privately manufactured and unregistered.
The sheriff's office says Lopez was arrested under suspicion of possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon, discharging a firearm in a negligent manner and evading police. Deputies add Lopez has been released after posting bond, but he is scheduled to appear in court on April 7. ...read more read less
