Homeowner Ryan Holt, a graphic designer, told FOX31 he and his wife, son and three cats were in the home when neighbors loudly knocked on their door warning them of flames.
“I saw what was going on, went back inside, shouted at my family, 'get your stuff, get out,'” Holt said.
Holt lost everything his family owns and his six-year-old son’s two cats.
“You know those are memories; we’ve been here for about six years and it’s rough,” he said.
Holt said he feels a strong sense of gratitude when he thinks about how close he came to losing his family.
“Getting to hug my kid every night, getting to see my wife and hold her hand,” he said.

In a brave effort to make sure everyone got out alive, an Aurora police officer didn’t think twice before running into the burning home. The officer ended up suffering from injuries related to smoke inhalation and was treated and released from the hospital.
Aurora police chief Todd Chamberlain issued a statement saying, “I want to thank my officer for his bravery and selflessness in putting himself at risk, as well as our partners at Aurora Fire Rescue for their swift response to contain the fire and care for the injured."
Holt and his family are struggling to get by and living in a hotel as they cope with and process their tremendous loss. A GoFundMe has been set up by neighbors and friends to help the family recover their losses.

“We had to wash our clothes like three or four times just to get the smoke out,” he said.
Holt tearfully told FOX31 he is looking forward to thanking the officer who entered the home to ensure his family’s safety.
“Just incredible; thank you, thank you so much, you know, my little boy gets to breathe,” he said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The officer’s name has not yet been released. ...read more read less
