ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Nova and Neander have called the roof of the Times Square building in downtown Rochester home since 2022, and they are now expanding their little family.
On March 19, Nova laid her first egg of the 2025 season. Just three days later, on March 22, she laid her second, f
ollowed by a third on March 25.

Now in their fourth mating season in Rochester, the pair has quickly grown in popularity, due to a live camera feed run by the Genesee Valley Audubon Society. The live stream lets people tune into the lives of the two falcons and their newest eggs.
"It gives you a chance to watch a falcon family raise their young together," says President of Genesee Valley Audubon Society June Summers. "When these eggs hatch, they go from little tiny puff balls to basically adult falcons in five weeks."
Summers explains that when it comes to raising young, Peregrine falcons have similar traits to humans. Often, the male will take care of the female by bringing her food and sitting on the eggs while she is away.
"They're bonded to each other," Summers explains. "They really work hard to raise their young, and get them out of the nest, so they are enduring."
These cameras do much more than just broadcast the lives of Nova and Neander. According to Summers, the falcons play a huge role in the ecosystem. She explains that they hunt some of the overpopulated animals within the city, including pigeons.
"We put the cameras up to try and educate people about the falcons and the fact that they are a bird of great meaning to the diversity of the area and a wonderful animal to watch," Summers said. "We hope that people learn more about nature and how important these birds are to the ecosystem."
Nova and Neander's eggs will be hatching in roughly 30 days. About five weeks after that, the babies will be adult falcons, learning how to fly and hunt to prepare for leaving the nest.
