Officials at the scene told FOX 5/KUSI the man died after two SWAT officers shot him.
During a press conference around 4 p.m., Lt. Patrick Fox with the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said the suspect was armed with a semi-automatic pistol gun and knife.
The suspect, who lived in the area, initially pointed the gun at a pest control worker, who then barricaded himself in his truck, according to authorities. That worker has been confirmed safe.
There is no indication of the suspect firing shots, per SDSO.
Nearby residents were evacuated during the standoff.
Also while speaking during the press conference, Fox said he was feeling lightheaded and passed out as surrounding media members and law enforcement assisted with his fall.
An ambulance came to the scene and Fox was checked out as precautionary measures, according to investigators.
The shooting is the second notable incident in the area in the last 10 years. Back in 2015, local sportscaster Kyle Kraska was shot multiple times in the neighborhood by an aggrieved house painter who he had contracted for a job that ultimately fell through. ...read more read less
