Heartbroken father speaks out after son murdered in Oakland on way to soccer practice

ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) -- An East Bay father is pleading for justice for his son who was murdered. Derbing Alvarado Jr., 15, was on his way to soccer practice last week.
He was approached by two people and fatally shot during a fight over his backpack. One person has been arrested. KRON4 spo

"I am alive, but I feel dead, and I am worried about my daughter," said Alvarado Sr.

On Tuesday, Alvarado Sr. spoke through an interpreter and shared his family's grief as they deal with the incredible pain of the fatal shooting of their son.
The 15-year-old was killed on March 17 after leaving Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School and heading to soccer practice in Oakland. A memorial has been placed on International Boulevard in Oakland where he was gunned down. Oakland police announced the arrest of a 16-year-old and continued to search for a second suspect.
"He was smart. He studied. He was never in trouble," the father said.
His father says the loss is unbearable at times. His son wanted to be a police officer or maybe a lawyer. He shared a room with his sister who misses him profoundly.
Alvarado Sr. says he is now fighting for justice.
"I hope the judge doesn't let him out. He deserves to be accountable," Alvarado Sr. said. ...read more read less
