The stretch of warm weather continues across New Mexico. Isolated showers and thunderstorms develop Wednesday and Thursday, but evaporating rain and lightning will bring a wildfire risk.
It's been another very warm day across New Mexico with temperatures even warmer than Monday for many. A coupl
e record high temperatures have also been broken in places like Gallup and Silver City today. Winds are light across the entire state with sunny skies. Temperatures will remain mild overnight.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms will move into southern New Mexico and the northern mountains Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the rain though will evaporate before reaching the ground. This could cause locally gusty winds. There will be enough instability in the atmosphere to even produce a few lightning strikes. These lightning strikes could cause wildfire starts, especially with rain not making it to the ground. The best chance for accumulating rain will be in southeast New Mexico. Temperatures will stay warm, although slightly cooler.
Drier weather returns Friday, but so does the wind. Westerly winds could gust as high as 45 to 50 mph Friday. This will bring in even warmer weather across the state. A cold front will move across New Mexico from the west late Friday night into early Saturday morning. It could bring a couple isolated showers and some light snow to the northern mountains as it does so. It will bring temperatures down closer to average for this time of year this weekend. Winds will stay breezy Saturday with lighter winds on Sunday.
Temperatures will warm up again early next week as the winds will pick up again by next Tuesday. ...read more read less
