Thousands of Richmond residents received tax rebate checks with wrong names
Mar 25, 2025
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Thousands of Richmond residents received property tax rebate checks with the wrong name printed on them, according to the city.
In a press release on Tuesday, March 25, city officials said that "several thousand" residents had received such checks, which were issued as part
of a four-cent tax rebate program meant to benefit Richmond property owners.
"Importantly, no taxpayer information has been released or compromised in any way," the city said, adding that the process remains "fully secure" and "there are no concerns regarding identity theft or misuse of personal data."
The city's Department of Finance is working to cancel and reissue the affected checks. A timeline for this process was not provided -- however, the city said it is "already in the process" of notifying all impacted residents.
