PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Brown University said it hosted nearly 250 local high school students for its annual STEM Day on Tuesday.
Brown University’s Department of Chemistry led workshops and experiments in engineering, public health, chemistry, physics, and mathematics to introduce students
to careers in STEM fields.
“I think this is an area where we really need people, we need great minds, and we need people that are coming from all sorts of different backgrounds so we can solve these really challenging problems,” Brown University Associate Professor of Chemistry Jerome Robinson said.
“This is what’s gonna make all of our daily lives better, be that, design new medicines to keep people living longer and better, or to designing new materials, or finding new ways for new types of technology.”
An organizer of the event said one of the goals of Brown University’s STEM Day is to get students thinking about how these fields contribute to society as they get set to make their decisions about what to study in college.
