PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The leader of a fraud conspiracy that used stolen personal information to purchase Land Rovers from dealerships in Rhode Island and New Hampshire was sentenced in court Tuesday, according to Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
27-year-old Dennis Odoom, of Joh
nston, was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.
According to Bloom, Odoom admitted that he recruited others to join the conspiracy, and provided a fraudulent ID to a co-conspirator. He then drove them to a dealership in New Hampshire to purchase a $96,256 Land Rover with “fraudulently obtained credit.” He was expected to pay the individual $2,000.
Court documents also claim the co-conspirators allegedly used the stolen credit to buy a Land Rover in Rhode Island, with a final sales price of $111,183, according to Bloom.
On Dec. 12, 2024, Odoom pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
27-year-old Roy Sweets, a co-defendant, pled guilty on March 18 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and is scheduled to be sentenced June 10.
28-year-old Adalberto Mauricio Romero, another co-defendant, is charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
Acting United States Attorney Bloom said restitution will be decided by the court at a later date.
