Low end rain chances stick around into the midweek
Mar 25, 2025
A weak wave of energy sliding through the Ohio Valley kept things a bit unsettled on Tuesday bringing light rain showers, plenty of clouds, and a cool northeast breeze to the northern half of the state while our southern counties saw mainly sunny skies. This created quite the temperature gradient
across the state with afternoon highs up north struggling to get into the mid-40s while areas down south saw spring-like highs in the low-60s! This overall pattern of northwest upper-level flow will continue through midweek, bringing another spoke of energy that could keep some rain chances in the forecast.
You’ll want to keep the umbrella handy again on Wednesday, though rain chances remain relatively low. Expect a few scattered showers across the region, but there will also be plenty of dry time and even some peeks of sunshine. A persistent northwest breeze will keep temperatures cooler than normal, with afternoon highs topping out in the mid-50s.
A Brief Break Before More Active Weather Arrives
Thursday will likely be the nicest day of the week as a quick-moving area of high pressure builds in very briefly. With a shift in wind direction, a southwest flow will help bump afternoon highs back into the low 60s. Expect dry conditions and a mix of sun and clouds to start making for a pleasant spring day. However, the break won’t last long as rain and storm chances ramp up again by late Thursday and into Friday. A warm front lifting in from the west will bring an increasing chance for showers and thunderstorms to close out the workweek.
Weekend Storm Threat to Watch
Our weather pattern looks to turn much more active over the weekend. While Saturday may feature some scattered showers and storms, it won’t be a complete washout, and temperatures will climb to unseasonably warm levels, with highs reaching the low 70s. The bigger concern comes Sunday, with the potential for strong to severe storms across the Ohio Valley. The Storm Prediction Center has already highlighted much of the region for an elevated risk of severe weather in their extended outlook. While details will become clearer as we get closer, the latest data suggests all modes of severe weather—including damaging winds, large hail, and possibly tornadoes—could be on the table. Stay weather-aware and keep checking back for updates as we fine-tune the forecast.
