Adams Central superintendent pleads guilty to OWI, gets probation

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The superintendent whom Adams Central Community Schools voted to keep as its leader after he was caught driving under the influence was sentenced last week.
On March 17, Joel Mahaffey was handed 60 days behind bars with 56 of those days suspended. Of the four days he h
ad left to serve, he'd already been in jail for two. He was also sentenced to 180 days of probation.
Less than a month ago, Mahaffey was pulled over by a Markle police officer for not fully stopping at a stop sign. According to court documents, Mahaffey blew a .115 BAC and told police he knew his job was in jeopardy.

But on March 11, the school board voted 5-2 in favor of keeping Mahaffey in his position.
Mahaffey's sentence comes after he pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration between .08-.15%. Charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, another count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and disregarding a stop sign were all dismissed. ...read more read less
