EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The City of Las Cruces has a new transit director. The City of Las Cruces announced the appointment of Richard Hanway on Tuesday, March 25. Hanway has 30 years in the transportation industry and has been with the City of Las Cruces since 2010, including serving as a bu s operator, route supervisor and transit manager. He also served as the City's interim fleet administrator before returning to the Transit Department, the City of Las Cruces said. "Throughout his tenure, Hanway has been instrumental in modernizing the City's transit system. In 2017, he began researching and advocating for the introduction of electric buses to the City of Las Cruces. His efforts played a key role in securing a significant grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration, enabling the City to acquire five electric buses for its fleet in 2024, and six electric buses in 2025.
