April recognized as Month of the Military Child at the State House
Mar 25, 2025
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– State leaders say April is “the month of the military child”, a time to recognize the unique experiences faced by children of service members.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, military families move on average every two to three years, and for the kids
that means attending new schools and making new friends.
It can also mean seeing one of their parents deploy for a long amount of time at a moment’s notice.
Governor McMaster directly addressed the children who attended Tuesday, March 25’s press conference, thanking them for what they endure.
Currently, McMaster says there are fifteen “purple star schools” across the state, that are dedicated to making transitions easier for military kids through assistance programs and staff education.
