Pecan Street Festival leaving Austin, moving to suburb

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After decades on Sixth Street in downtown Austin, the Pecan Street Festival is moving this spring. According to a press release, the festival will relocate to Bee Cave.
It will take place at the Hill Country Galleria on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4. Organizers said the new
location offers more space, a welcoming atmosphere, and ample free parking.
According to the event’s website, the move is also due to the "recent restructuring" of Sixth Street. Those changes include new barricades and modifications to parking.
"We know how special this event is to the Austin community, and our goal is to enhance the festival experience by offering plentiful space, convenient amenities, and a welcoming environment that celebrates the incredible local talent that makes the Pecan Street Festival so special," said Alora Hess, marketing manager at Hill Country Galleria.
The Pecan Street Festival has traditionally taken place on East Sixth Street, which was originally named Pecan Street under Austin’s 19th-century street naming system. The festival features vendors, artists, food, and more. This year, organizers said it will also include rides for kids and a petting zoo. The full music lineup will be announced soon.
In 2017, Austin city leaders recognized the long-running festival as a Heritage Event. At the time, the event drew an estimated 250,000 attendees over the weekend. ...read more read less
