WASHINGTON (DC News Now) - A Northeast D.C. Tesla owner is speaking out after his car was vandalized twice earlier this month.
Gene Butler is one of several D.C. Tesla owners targeted in recent weeks. He says he's had the car for about five years.

"I feel like we're being bullied and we don't appreciate it," said Butler, a 35-year resident on Capitol Hill.
"The first time was [a] shock, and I thought it was a little amusing, but the second time I was very upset. The message said, 'I heart Elon'. We thought, 'okay, somebody's being funny'. So, we wiped it off with Windex. The next day, another message appeared, with the same handwriting in the same color, that said, 'Instead of selling the car, you bought a bumper sticker,'" Butler described the drawings.
Right now, both local and federal law enforcement are looking to tackle Tesla targeting. The FBI is ramping up its new Tesla vandalism task force, as owners are finding themselves the victims of vandalism, property damage, and even arson across the country.
The task force comes as Tesla founder Elon Musk faces backlash over his involvement in the federal government.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is searching for two people who reportedly defaced multiple Teslas throughout Northeast and Northwest D.C., including Butler's. MPD said a man and woman “wrote political hate speech” on the victims’ cars before fleeing.

Butler says he is a former federal worker and sympathizes with others' frustrations about Musk's involvement, but wants people to think before they act.
"If you want to come to me, you can talk to us. Don't damage our property. We can have a civil conversation. I mean, we don't support what's going on with the government right now, and I'm sure they don't either, but damaging personal property is not the way to protest."
MPD is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case. ...read more read less
