Charles County detectives seek information on serial sex offender cold case

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Charles County Sheriff's Office detectives are seeking information to identify the man responsible for a series of sexual assaults spanning seven years starting in 1996.
According to detectives, a man most commonly referred to as "Jerry" targeted women betwee
n November 1996 and August 2003 in Prince George's County and Washington, D.C., areas by offering rides under false pretenses.

Detectives said that once the women entered the vehicle, the man distracted them by telling personal information as he drove off their intended route and towards a remote area in Charles County.
There, he would physically attack and sexually assault the women. Detectives noted that the man had extensive knowledge of the secluded areas.
Detectives said that while the man mostly referred to himself as "Jerry," he also went by a few different aliases such as "Jimmy," "George," and "James."

The man is estimated to have been in his late 30s to early 50s at the time of the attacks and is now likely in his 50s to 70s. Detectives said the man's birth year is believed to range between 1949-1966 and may have family ties to Southern Maryland and the D.C. region.

The man is described as a Black man with a dark complexion and stocky build, short-cropped hair, prominent overbite, and pockmarked face.
According to detectives, the man had access to multiple vehicles, including:
1996: Green/lime Ford pickup truck
1997-1999: Red/burgundy small passenger car (possibly an older model Ford Pinto, Escort, or Toyota with partial Maryland plates FG-549, 594, or 546)
1999: Red station wagon
2001: Gray/light green older-model Ford F-150
2002: Tan/beige box-shaped passenger vehicle
2003: Teal/green passenger vehicle

Through forensic evidence, detectives have linked multiple cases to the man, classifying him as a violent sex offender.
