2 pediatric deaths from flu, RSV confirmed in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The first pediatric flu and RSV deaths for the 2024-2025 respiratory virus season were confirmed Tuesday by the Fresno County Department of Public Health (FCDPH).
Of these deaths, the FCDPH says one pediatric death was related to the flu while the other was rel
ated to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), both of which occurred within Fresno County.

The one pediatric death reported in Fresno County is one of 24 pediatric deaths due to influenza reported across the state.
Health officials say, as of March 22, four people aged 18-64 have died due to influenza in Fresno County - and 13 people aged 65 and older have died due to influenza in Fresno County.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of these children,” said Interim Health Officer Dr. Rais Vohra. “With respiratory infections still circulating in our community, it’s important to remember that it’s not too late to get vaccinated against the flu and, if eligible, against RSV.”
The FCDPH urges everyone 6 months and older to get the flu vaccine, especially children under 5 years old, those 65 and older, pregnant individuals, and people with underlying health conditions such as asthma.
“Protect your loved ones today by getting vaccinated,” Dr. Vohra said.
