Local College Notebook: Joe Loreti off to strong start for Stockton baseball

Joe Loreti is having a solid freshman season on the mound for the Stockton baseball team.
The former Steinert standout was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie Pitcher of the Week after hurling 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and a 1.69 ERA in two appearances during the Ospreys’ trip
to Florida last week.
The righty allowed just one run and two hits while holding opponents to a paltry .125 batting average. For the season, Loreti has a 1.23 ERA and .091 opposing batting average in 7.1 innings pitched.
Martell Named Eastern Division Softball Athlete of the Week
It was a 6-0 week for the Shippensburg softball team and a lot of the credit goes to Caitlyn Martell fr0m Pennsbury.
Martell was 14-for-25 (.560) at the plate with three extra-base hits (two doubles, one triple), eight RBIs, and four runs scored.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s No. 2-ranked hitter for batting average had at least one hit in all six games, including multiple hits in five games and three consecutive three-hit games.
The former Falcon has at least one hit in 13 of 14 games this season and is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. She has reached base in 41 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Ulisse, Moore Deliver for Lafayette
Ryan Ulisse (Peddie/Mercer) slammed a huge two-run double to lead Lafayette to a 5-3 win over Penn State and Kellen Moore (Lawrence) pitched an inning in relief to preserve the lead.
The win was the first by the Leopards over a Power Five school since 2017 and the first over a Big Ten school since 2007.
The double was Ulisse’s first of the season and he is batting .280.
Moore has 11 strikeouts in 13 innings on the mound.

Men’s Basketball: Hampton Sanders (Lawrenceville) will be in the lineup when NYU faces Trinity for the Division III championship. Sanders averages 11.5 points a game and has a team high 103 assists. …Brian Herbert (Robbinsville) finished with 13.7 points, 5/7 rebounds and a team high 24 blocks for Catholic, which lost to Trinity in the Elite Eight. …Pat Higgins (Pennington) finished the season with a 12.0 scoring average for Drew.
