Temperatures continue to warm across New Mexico to above seasonable averages. These temperatures are expected to last into next week.
A high pressure system has centered itself to the south of New Mexico. The resulting ridging is bring clear sunny skies and warm weather to much of the state. Nea
rly the entire state is trending warmer today than yesterday. Raton is already 21 degrees warmer today compared to yesterday. Temperatures will begin to marginally cool off tomorrow. However, the warmer than average temperatures will last through next week.
A weak low pressure system is set to move into southern New Mexico tomorrow. This low pressure will start off by bringing stronger winds back to the state. Gusts upwards of 30+ mph are possible across the higher elevations and in eastern New Mexico. The rest of the state could experience locally breezy conditions.
The low pressure system will also bring the chance for thunderstorms. However, these are expected to be dry thunderstorms. That means that while the cloud will produce precipitation, none or very little will actually reach the ground. Instead dry thunderstorms bring the risk of strong wind gust and wildfires. Lightning strikes from the storm could ignite the very dry ground.
