Utah Rocks! challenge to host adaptive climbing event

As part of the Every Kid Outdoors Adventure Challenge launched by the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation in January, the month of March is dedicated to teaching kids the basics of rock climbing and encouraging them to explore the sport in gyms and outdoor spaces across the state.The program partner
s with organizations such as the National Ability Center, Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports, Wasatch Adaptive Sports, and TRAILS Adaptive that support individuals with disabilities. These organizations also offer scholarships to ensure that cost is never a barrier to participation.Last week, as part of this month’s focus, participants were invited to take part in a free 90-minute bouldering session at eight climbing gyms. They earned a special edition Utah Rocks! sticker and had the chance to win climbing gear and other prizes.“We are thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm from families across the state,” said Caroline Weiler, youth engagement program manager at the Division of Outdoor Recreation. “Climbing is such a great way for kids to challenge themselves, stay active, and develop problem-solving skills. Seeing so many first-time climbers conquer the wall today was truly inspiring.”In continuation of last week’s event, an additional adaptive climbing session will be held Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at The Front Salt Lake City, 1470 S 400 W.Every Kid Outdoors, The Front SLC, and the National Ability Center, in collaboration with Wasatch Adaptive Sports, Ogden Valley Adaptive Sports and TRAILS Adaptive, will host this adaptive climbing event for children with disabilities.The event will provide an inclusive and supportive environment, featuring specialized equipment and expert instructors to ensure every participant can fully enjoy the climbing experience, organizers said.Each month, the challenge focuses on a different activity, such as rock climbing, with the goal to get kids outside, active and engaged with nature.Participants in the program can track their progress through the challenge, earning stickers and taking part in a variety of events, incentives and rewards for completing activities.Through this initiative, young adventurers can develop a deeper connection with nature, enhance their physical fitness, and learn valuable outdoor skills that will benefit them for years to come, said the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation.To learn more about the program and join the challenge, visit recreation.utah.gov/eko.The post Utah Rocks! challenge to host adaptive climbing event appeared first on Park Record. ...read more read less
