An Olivet man died in a two-vehicle crash early Monday evening (March 24, 2025, at 6:03pm) five miles north of Olivet, SD. The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members. Preliminary crash information indicates the 73 year old male driver of a 1999 Ca dillac DeVille was traveling north on 426th Avenue and slowed down at the intersection of 281st Street to attempt to make a u-turn. At the same time, the driver of a 1998 Peterbilt 379 semi was traveling the same direction and attempted to maneuver around the Cadillac as it continued its u-turn. The vehicles collided and came to rest in the west ditch. The driver of the Cadillac sustained fatal injuries. The driver and a passenger in the semi were uninjured. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
