MEMPHIS, Tenn -- Long lines are common at the DMV, but you’ll really need to pack your patience for the next several weeks.
People are scrambling to get their Real IDs before the May 7th deadline.
"Girl, it’s hot. First of all, I’ve been here for an hour. I started off at the back of th
e line and I still haven’t made it to the front," said resident Tamara Foxx. "So, this is ridiculous, I feel like they should have a separate line for us, just coming in specifically for that reason."

The Department of Homeland Security says that anyone who does not have their REAL ID by the May deadline will not be able to board domestic flights or visit some federal facilities.
Before you go get in line, it’s important that you have the required documents with you: proof of U.S. Citizenship, your social security card number, and two proofs of Tennessee residency.
Anyone who does not have that documentation will be turned away.

“I was here yesterday, but I had to go back and get my birth certificate, and when I say I been standing here for about an hour, two hours now," said another resident Renardo McKenny. "And hadn’t made it to even a little bit of shadow, at not even the front of the line.”
If your name has changed on any of the required documentation, you must bring paperwork that supports the name change.
"But now I’m having to go through a long procedure as far as getting that star to having all the required document that is needed in order to get it," McKenny said. "And at this stage, I don’t know where to turn to or who I may look to as far as helping me to obtain the information that is needed."
To avoid long lines, you can schedule an appointment online and review the current wait times at each location. ...read more read less
