"From everybody you talk to, it seems like...this thing is going to be at 119th and Nall at the Sprint campus," Bob Fescoe said on his sports radio show.
"Having the conversations with both people in Arizona [and] people here locally as well...people are more and more talking about it like it is happening. There's no more 'well if;' it's almost like 'when it's going to be happening.'"
Aspiria, however, said this is not true.
"After hearing and seeing reports and social media posts regarding the Kansas City Royals potentially locating to the Aspiria campus, OPS-KC Aspiria, LLC would like to state that it is NOT in discussions with the Royals about Aspiria being a potential new site for their stadium," officials said in a press release Tuesday.
Aspiria is a 207-acre campus managed and leased by Occidental Management.
"There is a lot of speculation out there," said Chad Stafford, Occidental Management’s President.
"This is just a rumor, and we are not talking with the Royals about moving to the Aspiria campus."
Fescoe also said on the show that the Royals have reached out to the Jewish Community Center to see what it would take to purchase that land.
At about this time last year, the Royals were hopeful voters would approve a sales extension for a new stadium in the Crossroads downtown. Ultimately, the vote failed.
In the aftermath, Kansas lawmakers put together plans to provide tax breaks for the Royals and/or Chiefs to hop the state line. One of those proposed sites was the former Sprint World HQ campus, which is now known as Aspiria. ...read more read less
