According to court documents, officers from the Eaton Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of N Elm St. on March 23, at approximately 4:30 p.m., after a mother requested a welfare check on her son.
Upon arrival, the police officer was met by a resident who opened the door. After the officer took one step inside the home, he reported noticing a child sitting on a couch surrounded by hundreds of bugs. The bugs were allegedly flying and crawling on the child.
According to the officer's report, multiple children were playing video games on a bunk bed with animal feces fencing them in. The feces and bugs were on the furniture and the floor, according to the officer.
Authorities also noticed several emaciated animals in "filthy" cages.
In total, the officer found 15 animals. There were five dogs, eight cats, and two rabbits.
