District attorney to host news conference on Walmart shooting case
Mar 25, 2025
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - El Paso District Attorney James Montoya will talk about the capital murder case against Walmart shooter Patrick Crusius, in a news conference on Tuesday, March 25, the DA's Office said.
The news conference will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Enrique Moreno County C
ourthouse, the DA's Office said.
The DA's Office said that since taking office on Jan. 1, Montoya pledged to meet with every family of the 23 victims who lost their lives in the shooting.
The purpose of the meetings was to hear directly from the families about how they feel about the case, the pending trial, and the ongoing pursuit of capital punishment, the DA's Office added.
"While the entire El Paso community was deeply affected by the terrible events of that day nearly six years ago, the District Attorney wanted to meet with the families who suffered the deepest losses before making his decision known to the public," read the news release by the DA's Office.
This news conference comes after it was recently announced that Crusius will no longer face the death penalty.
Walmart gunman won’t face death penalty
As we previously reported, Crusius pleaded guilty to federal charges back in July 2023 and was sentenced to 90 consecutive life sentences. Crusius murdered 23 people at the Cielo Vista Walmart store on Aug. 3, 2019, and wounded more than 20 others.
We will be live-streaming the news conference in this story. ...read more read less
