Andrea Kohler announces retirement after 35 years as assistant district attorney in Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern County Assistant District Attorney Andrea Kohler announced her retirement at the Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, after serving at the DA’s office for 35 years.
Kohler was present at the meeting along with her colleagues at the District A
ttorney’s Office, including District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer.
“I would just like to say it's been both a privilege and an honor to serve this community,” Kohler said. “I've never known a community with such warmth and people who really, really care about each other, so to be a part of that has been wonderful.”

Kohler graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1989, according to the Kern County Bar Association. Shortly after being admitted to the Bar in the same year, Kohler moved from a plaintiff’s personal injury firm in Los Angeles to the Kern DA’s Office.
In 1990, former district attorney Edward Jagels appointed Kohler as a prosecutor at the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, according to a resolution submitted to the Board of Supervisors by Zimmer.
On March 29, 2006, Kohler got promoted to the position of Supervising Deputy District Attorney, where she led teams of attorneys in branch operations, prison prosecution, domestic violence, sex crimes and homicide units, Zimmer said.

DA Zimmer appointed Kohler as assistant district attorney on Jan. 7, 2019. Kohler became the first female ADA in the office’s history, according to the resolution.
As the ADA, Kohler oversaw all prosecutors, clerical staff, Crime Lab, Family Justice Center and the Bureau of Investigation, according to Zimmer.
