Providence Place Mall rolls out slate of new security measures, code of conduct for shoppers
Mar 25, 2025
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Starting Tuesday, teens under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult at the Providence Place Mall.
The new rule requires supervision after 5 p.m. every day.
The new rule will specifically apply to the shopping center’s common areas.
Stores and restau
rants can also establish their own individual policies, and security personnel will be working to let everyone know at the mall in the coming weeks.
The new rule comes after several teens were arrested back in January at the Skybridge for assault and robbery charges.
Six teens were also arrested in November of last year in connection to a robbery right outside of the mall.
New policies and enhanced surveillance are part of a bigger plan to restore the mall, and there will also be controlled access to the Skybridge.
New doorways are being installed on the Providence Place side, there will also be extended security throughout the mall and CCTV camera upgrades.
A third-party security audit is also underway and a request for proposals has been sent to hire a top security provider.
A new code of conduct is being posted throughout the mall, including the prohibition of congregating, disruptive behavior and smoking or vaping at the mall.
Mall officials say these measures are just the beginning, as they work to restore confidence in Providence Place.
“The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities,” said John Dorsey, receiver of the Providence Place Mall.
“These extra safety measures reflect our dedication to creating a secure and welcoming environment for everyone who visits and works at the mall.”
Parking garage repairs are also continuing this spring.
