DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Jury selection is a week away in the second murder trial of Karen Read. Read’s case heads back to superior court Tuesday for the final pre-trial hearing. Read is accused of hitting and killing her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe with her car back in 2022 . Several motions related to the second trial are still unresolved, including arguments over evidence and witnesses. Read’s team has also been pursuing an appeal to have two of Read’s charges dismissed. Her defense team claims being re-tried could amount to double jeopardy based on statements made by jurors after the conclusion of the first trial. That argument has been denied by three judges.
