Consumer Reports: Top Vehicle Picks for 2025
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Consumer Reports has announced its top vehicle picks for 2025, highlighting models that excel in safety, performance, and fuel efficiency.
Every year, Consumer Reports evaluates new vehicles at its state-of-the-art facility,
assessing key factors such as safety, performance, fuel efficiency, and cargo space. In addition to hands-on testing, CR gathers reliability and owner satisfaction data from over 300,000 vehicles through member surveys, providing comprehensive insights for car buyers.
This year’s top picks offer a range of options for car buyers, from family-friendly SUVs to fuel-efficient hybrids and luxury vehicles.
The Toyota Highlander Hybrid has been named the best midsized SUV by Consumer Reports, praised for its spacious interior and impressive fuel economy.
“The Highlander Hybrid is a great choice for a family road trip, with three rows of seating, 35 miles per gallon overall in Consumer Reports’ testing, and a near 600-mile cruising range,” CR’s Mike Quincy said.
The Subaru Forester is recognized as the best compact SUV, featuring a redesigned cabin that is both quiet and comfortable, along with increased cargo space. It achieves an average of 29 miles per gallon in Consumer Reports tests.
For those seeking a fuel-efficient compact SUV, the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid stands out with its solid performance and a plug-in hybrid system that offers 42 miles of electric range.
The Nissan Sentra, starting at just over $20,000, is noted for its exceptional value, offering great handling, a comfortable ride, and numerous standard advanced safety features.
“If there’s a sleeper car within Consumer Reports’ Top Picks, it has to be the Sentra. It has great handling, a comfortable ride, intuitive controls, and a ton of standard advanced safety features, making it an exceptional value,” Quincy said.
The redesigned Toyota Camry, available only as a hybrid, is a top pick for sedans due to its fun driving experience, reliability, and fuel efficiency.
The Subaru Crosstrek is ideal for urban touring and outdoor excursions, boasting high ground clearance, a comfortable ride over rough terrain, and standard all-wheel drive.
Ford’s Maverick and Maverick Hybrid pickup trucks are also highlighted, with the Maverick Hybrid achieving an impressive 37 miles per gallon. For a more luxurious ride, the BMW X5 and X5 plug-in hybrid, along with the Lexus NX Hybrid, are Consumer Reports’ top picks for luxury vehicles. If you want to go fully electric, the Tesla Model Y is CR’s top pick for electric vehicle.
