NCDMV Kiosk Pilot Hits 25,000 Transactions in a year
Mar 25, 2025
ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles self-service kiosk pilot in grocery stores has hit a significant milestone in its first year. Since its launch last March, 25,000 customers have accessed DMV services at select Harris Teeters in Wake, Mecklenburg and Cumberland counties.
The s
uccess of the kiosk pilot can be attributed to the services being available in a convenient setting with hours far exceeding the DMV’s normal Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. model. Services offered include both driver license and ID card renewals and duplicates, along with vehicle registration renewals and property tax payments for new vehicles.
Nine total kiosks are in place – four each in Wake and Mecklenburg counties, and one in Cumberland County:
The Corners at Brier Creek (4221 Corners Parkway, Raleigh)
Village District (500 Oberlin Road, Raleigh)
Cary Village Square (885 Walnut St., Cary)
Fuquay Crossing (1371 East Broad St., Fuquay-Varina)
Riverbend Village (4701 Smith Farm Road, Charlotte)
Town Center Plaza (8600 University City Blvd., Charlotte)
Central Avenue (1704 Central Ave., Charlotte)
Quail Corners (8538 Park Road, Charlotte)
Highland Centre (2800 Raeford Road, Fayetteville)
A 10th kiosk is planned for the Soldier Support Center on base in Fayetteville, and more kiosks will be added as certain transaction thresholds are achieved. Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI) is NCDMV’s private partner for the kiosk pilot. ITI has partnerships with several states and grocery store chains to deploy kiosks for DMV transactions. The kiosk pilot comes at no cost to the state. ITI is compensated via a $4.95 fee per transaction. Customers are also charged a 2% credit/debit card processing fee.
