Man pleads guilty to stabbing at US Penitentiary in Atwater

ATWATER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man pleaded guilty in the case of a stabbing at a penitentiary in Atwater on Monday, the United States Department of Justice said.
The DOJ says Jarvell Kent, 30, of Fresno, pleaded guilty on Monday to assault with a deadly weapon in the United States Penitentiary a
t Atwater.
According to court documents, Kent chased another inmate around a cell block at USP Atwater while holding a jail-made weapon that was like a knife on April 28, 2024. Kent and other inmates used his jail-made knife to stab the victim.
The DOJ says the victim ended up requiring medical attention to treat the wounds.
Kent is scheduled to be sentenced on June 23. Federal officials say he faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. ...read more read less
