(KRON) -- A longtime seafood restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek is permanently closing this spring. After nearly three decades in business, Walnut Creek Yacht Club is shutting its doors for good in May, co-owners Ellen McCarty and Kevin Weinberg wrote in a letter. The restaurant, located at 1555 B onanza St., made the "most difficult decision" to close after 28 years. McCarty and Weinberg announced their retirement as the reason for the closure. There were talks to try to keep Walnut Creek Yacht Club open, but the owners said there were concerns new management might not live up to the legacy they've built through the years. Walnut Creek Yacht Club's last day of service will be on Wednesday, May 7. That would have been the restaurant's 29th anniversary. We have seen children grow up and return with their children. We have seen families lose loved ones and come here to celebrate their memories with us, because this was their favorite place. Walnut Creek Yacht Club is located in the northern portion of the city's downtown area. The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and closes one hour later at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
