Famed Walnut Creek seafood restaurant to close after nearly 30 years
Mar 24, 2025
(KRON) -- A longtime seafood restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek is permanently closing this spring. After nearly three decades in business, Walnut Creek Yacht Club is shutting its doors for good in May, co-owners Ellen McCarty and Kevin Weinberg wrote in a letter.
The restaurant, located at 1555 B
onanza St., made the "most difficult decision" to close after 28 years. McCarty and Weinberg announced their retirement as the reason for the closure.
There were talks to try to keep Walnut Creek Yacht Club open, but the owners said there were concerns new management might not live up to the legacy they've built through the years.

"We have talked with others who wished to keep WCYC sailing, but this craft was built with our blood, sweat, and tears, and we knew that if someone else took the helm, she might not weather any new storms that could come her way," the letter said in part.
Walnut Creek Yacht Club's last day of service will be on Wednesday, May 7. That would have been the restaurant's 29th anniversary.

WCYC has become a part of your family traditions, and that is one of our greatest honors. We have seen children grow up and return with their children. We have seen families lose loved ones and come here to celebrate their memories with us, because this was their favorite place.
