KIEL, Wis. (WFRV) - A decade later, Northeast Wisconsin remembers and continues to honor fallen state trooper Trevor Casper. On March 24, 2015, the 21-year-old Casper was on his first solo patrol. He had tracked down a murder and bank-robbing suspect near the 'Pick N' Save' in Fond du Lac. The s uspect shot at Casper, hitting him. Before dying from his wounds, Casper fired back at the suspect killing him. "Twenty one years old Trevor Casper did more in 17 seconds than most people will do in a lifetime," said Fond du Lac County district attorney Eric Toney. "He's a hero and remains in our hearts forever."  Toney said he remembers that day well. He said after information started coming in about what had happened, he was struck by Casper's heroic actions. Lawrence officials consider $215 million community development project "It's hard to believe that it has already been 10 years and how eternally grateful we are for Trevor's sacrifice to keep our community safe," Toney said. "We owe an eternal debt of gratitude to Trevor and his family."  Toney said that every year on the date of his death, the Wisconsin State Patrol holds a solemn ceremony at Casper's grave in Kiel with Trevor's family. On Monday the Wisconsin State Patrol made a Facebook post in honor of Casper, reminding the public to never forget his sacrifice. The Kiel Police Department also posted on Facebook about Casper: 'Today marks the ten-year anniversary of Trooper Casper’s line-of-duty death. On this date we remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Trooper Casper to serve and protect his community by laying down his life. Trooper Casper’s legacy as a brother, son, and hero will be continued to be remembered not only today, but every day in our hearts.' --Kiel Police Department Facebook Post We're told that it meant the world to Casper to be able to serve his community as a member of the Wisconsin State Patrol. Casper grew up in Kiel and attended Kiel High School where he played multiple sports. On Monday, fresh flowers laid on the bench of the memorial in Casper's honor near the Pick 'N Save in Fond du Lac where the shooting happened a decade ago. Casper Post Office Building." "Anytime a trooper loses his or her life or any police officer frankly, it's a sad day," said Governor Tony Evers during a stop in Green Bay on Monday to discuss childcare.
