COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) -- A big March Madness moment for the University of Maryland (UMD) Terps had College Park abuzz Monday.
Freshman hoops star Derik Queen's buzzer-beater made all the difference Sunday night for the UMD men’s basketball team, sending Colorado State packing and send
ing the Terps to the Sweet 16, with a final score of 72-71.
The Terps haven't seen a Sweet Sixteen appearance since the 2015-2016 season.
Students on campus Monday couldn't wait to talk about the big moment.
"Derik Queen is him! He's that guy. A freshman, a grown man, I've never seen anything like this," said fellow student-athlete and freshman football player Zymear Smith.
"It was so fun, at the end, we're all sitting there like nail biting, because we were all really stressed out," said student Kendal Perkins, who watched the game from nearby Looney's Pub. "Just being in that atmosphere is very fun, especially with how close the game was. Obviously that like, last second was crazy."

"It was really exciting. I was watching in my room with my roommate. We had our laptops on, games on our screens right towards the end. It was a very thrilling end," said freshman Dunja Senic. "I honestly thought we were going to sell at the end, which we do a lot of the time, but we didn't, so it was great."
The men from Maryland are moving on, and the women's basketball team is trying to do the same. Students and fans will head to UMD's Xfinity Center on Monday night to watch the team take on Alabama.
"I'm glad that they're at home and they're hosting. So that's fun that I can get to go to at least the women's game," said Senic.
The women's team plays Alabama at 5 p.m., and the men have a few days off before taking on top-seed Florida later this week. ...read more read less
