HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - After being up for sale for almost a year, the beloved and iconic Hanford Superior Diary has been sold, according to the realtor in charge of selling the property on Monday. Superior Diary has been serving the city of Hanford for almost a century - its website states the ice cream shop was funded in 1929, and has become part of the city's history ever since. On Oct. 4, 2024, YourCentralValley.com first learned the shop was up for sale. Beloved Hanford ice cream shop is for sale According to Ryan Portugal on Monday, the realtor in charge of selling the property, the transition is now complete. The shop was being sold for $2.5 million. Portugal says the reason behind the sale was for the owner, Tim Jones, to retire. Since the announcement, Portugal says the owners wished for a buyer who would keep the ice cream shop open and "give it the love that it needs." “After some hard conversations, the family decided that it was just time. You know, they’ve seen it through for 95 years and now they’d like to see somebody else take it for the next 95 years and give it the same love and care that they did,” Portugal said.
