Parking rates to increase in some areas near San Diego Bay waterfront

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- On Monday, the Port of San Diego announced it will increase parking rates at some locations along the San Diego Bay waterfront as soon as next week.
The port said the changes at some meters and pay stations are meant to "boost parking space turnover."

Starting Wednesday, April 2, parking rates at the Spanish Landing pay stations and via the payment apps at 219 spaces will increase from $1 to $2 per hour. On July 1, it will increase an additional 50 cents, for a total of $2.50 per hour.
Enforcement hours will be between 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week. There is a three-hour time limit during enforcement hours, the port stated.
Meanwhile, parking rates at Embarcadero Marina Parks North and South will go up from $1.75 to $2.50 per hour on April 2. This only applies to hours between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
Shelter Island will also have higher parking rates for 283 of its parking meters. Visitors will see an increase from $1.25 to $2.25 per hour starting April 2, and then another increase to $2.50 on July 1.
Enforcement on Shelter Island will be seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking is limited to three hours at a time.
However, thousands of parking spaces will remain free. The following parks will not be affected by the parking rate increase:

The port manages about 9,400 parking spaces, approximately 2,900 of which are free. ...read more read less
