Stretch of warm weather begins Monday across New Mexico

A stretch of well-above average temperatures starts today across New Mexico. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible in southern New Mexico later this week.
Starting out the week with very warm and mostly quiet weather. There are a few breezy spots across the state this afternoon, but winds are
generally light, especially for this time of year. Temperatures are the biggest story today as they climb into the 70s and 80s for most of the state. These temperatures are as much as 10° to 15° warmer than average. Even warmer temperatures are on the way Tuesday afternoon.
Temperatures will be slightly cooler Wednesday afternoon as clouds increase from the south. A weak storm system will move in Wednesday, bringing very isolated chances for rain Wednesday afternoon. It will mostly produce virga and dry thunderstorms. Another chance for evaporating rain and dry thunderstorms return Thursday afternoon. The concern Wednesday and Thursday will be those dry thunderstorms which could spark wildfires due to lightning.
Drier and warmer weather returns statewide Friday afternoon, but so do the winds. It's likely an elevated fire danger will return starting Friday afternoon. A weak cold front will sweep across New Mexico Friday night, keeping temperatures slightly cooler this weekend, but still above average and dry. ...read more read less
