Sister seeks answers 3 years after brother's body found in burned car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A sister is still in pain after her brother died in a car fire in February 2022.
Over three years later, Memphis Police are still searching for the suspect who took his life.
According to MPD, Marcus Jefferson, 41, was found in a vehicle engulfed in flames near Carnes and the
Airways Boulevard overpass.

"The way he was murdered, it took us weeks, weeks to get him identified," said the victim's sister Shalissa Jefferson. "He was a phenomenal brother. The only brother I had."
Investigators said that when they arrived on the scene, they found Jefferson in the driver's seat of his vehicle slumped over into the passenger side. They also found several spent shell casings near the burned vehicle.

Jefferson said that her brother's injuries were so severe the medical examiners had a hard time identifying him.
In fact, an identification wasn't made until April 3, 2022, nearly two months after his body was discovered.
"They finally got him identified because it was so extensive to where they couldn't even identify him by his teeth," said Jefferson.
She said that her family has spent three years waiting for answers and justice that has been moving ever so slowly.

"My parents are older. My mom, she walks around with bags under her eyes every day. He was a momma's boy, it's a lot to carry," said Jefferson. "I pray daily that justice will be served before they leave this earth."
Investigators have not shared much about the investigation, but Jefferson said that the killer has left her family heartbroken.
"Whoever has the harsh feeling to do something like this, just come forth and that would give me and my family so much peace," Jefferson said. "I love him and I miss him each and every day of my life."
